The library runs on scans contributed by dozens of research libraries, so its public-domain holdings go deep into older editions and regional publications that never made it onto more mainstream digitization projects. For a notebook built around a historical text, treaty, or old edition of a book, a full PDF download brings in the whole primary source rather than a snippet. Anything still under copyright is search-only, so newer material often can't be pulled in as a full document.
