Core samples, borehole logs, and site data from decades of scientific ocean drilling. Expedition reports are open-access and import well as PDFs.
IODP and its predecessor programs have drilled ocean floor cores for decades, so its expedition reports carry measured data — sediment layers, borehole readings — rather than modeled estimates, which is unusual to get free access to at this level of primary geoscience detail. That makes it a strong base for a notebook on paleoclimate or plate tectonics questions that want real core data behind the argument. The reports are technical and site-specific, so a notebook built from them benefits from also having a general geology or climate-history source for context.
