Earth and environmental science data repository with DOIs. Each dataset's landing page carries methods and metadata that ground climate and ocean research well.
PANGAEA assigns a DOI to each dataset it hosts, with a landing page documenting the methods, instruments, and processing behind the numbers, which gives a climate or ocean-science notebook something more citable and precise than a summary chart. It's used heavily in earth-science publishing, so many papers on ocean and climate topics link back to a PANGAEA dataset in their data-availability statement. Datasets vary widely in scope — a single expedition's measurements sit alongside compiled long-term series — so check what a specific one covers before assuming it represents a whole region.
